Peach Gum Chinese Dessert|桃胶糖水

Peach Gum Chinese Dessert has gained popularity for the past few years in Malaysia. This dessert is popular during Chinese New Year. I fell in love with this dessert the first time I tasted it 2 years ago at a Chinese restaurant. The good news is its super easy to make and does not cost much. It is believed that Peach Gum is a beauty dessert that helps build collagen 😉Peach gum is usually paired with snow birds nest gum tragacanth and lotus seeds. Both are extracted from plants. Peach Gum Dessert can be enjoyed hot or cold.

What is Peach Gum “桃胶”?

Peach gum is the resin from peach trees. It is in solid form and looks like crystals. When boiled in soups, the texture is like soft jelly.

What is Snow Birds Nest Gum Tragacanth “雪燕”?

Gum tragacanth is the sap from legumes mostly found in Middle East. It is in solid form and looks like uncut rough diamonds. After soaking in water, the gum expands like 20 times its size and looks like bird nest.

What is snow lotus seeds “雪莲子”?

Snow lotus seeds (Saussurea involucrata) are the seeds from the snow lotus plant. Snow lotus plant is from the  Asteraceae family, growing in the high mountains of central Asia. It is believed that snow lotus seeds helps to promote blood circulation and reduce inflammation.

There are many combination of ingredients to make Peach gum dessert. For this recipe, I just used the few basic ingredients. Feel free to add other ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 30 grams peach gum 30克桃胶
  • 10 grams snow birds nest gum tragacanth 10克雪燕
  • 10 grams snow lotus seeds 10克雪莲子
  • 30 grams dried longan 30克龙眼
  • 10-12 medium size red date (remove pit) 10-12粒红枣
  • 120-150 grams honey rock sugar (adjust sweetness to your taste) 120-150克蜂蜜冰糖自己调味
  • 3000 ml water 3000毫升水

Optional ingredients:

  • Chia seeds 嘉种子
  • Goji berry 枸杞
  • Snow fungus 雪耳
