Steam Fish Chinese Style 清蒸鱼

This recipe is from my Dad and its very aromatic and delicious. Best of all its very simple and easy. Do try it as its really yummy!

Top tips:

  • I used garoupa fillet in this recipe. Any white fish will also taste good with this style such as seabass, pomfret, cod etc
  • Fish has to be fresh to make this steam fish chinese style
  • I use 220 grams of fillet. If the size of your fish is different, cooking time will vary

  • 220 grams of garoupa fish fillet (prewashed) 石斑鱼片220克
  • 2 inch ginger, julienne 生姜 2英寸 切丝
  • 2-3 sprigs of spring onion 葱 2-3枝
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced 大蒜 4瓣
  • 1 tablespoon soya sauce 生抽 1汤匙
  • 40ml vegetable/corn oil 菜油 40毫升


  • Fill half the wok with water and bring to boil
  • Place fish fillet and a few julienned ginger into a bowl for steaming
  • Fill the wok half full with water and bring water to boil before steaming the fish. Steam on high heat for 6 minutes
  • While waiting for the fish to cook, fry the garlic in oil until fragrant, pour into bowl and set aside
  • When fish is cooked, pour the garlic oil, soya sauce, spring onion and ginger on top of the fish. Serve warm
