Chrysanthemum Tea “菊花茶”

Chrysanthemum Tea has been used widely for hundreds of years in Chinese Medicine. Chrysanthemum tea has cooling properties. So its definitely one of my go to chinese herbal tea when I feel under the weather or heaty “热气“. Its very easy to make.

Chinese medicine believe that its important to balance the yin and yang in the body. Thus, you need to cool down the excess heat “热气” in the body by drinking herbal tea with cooling properties. I find that Chrysanthemum tea is very effective in cooling the body.

Signs of excess heat in the body are hot flushes, skin breakouts (eg. acne), sore throat, headache etc. For me personally, I will just feel really hot!

So if you constantly eat spicy food, fried stuff, bake cookies etc, it is good to balance it with some cooling chinese herbal tea

  • Don’t boil too long or with high heat as it will taste bitter
  • You can also add rock sugar instead of honey

There are two types of method to make Chrysanthemum tea. One is to boil it and another is to steep in boiling water. I find the Chrysanthemum tea that requires boiling is more effective. Thus, in this recipe, I’m going to share with you how to make boiled Chrysanthemum tea.
