Chinese Fried Rice with Rice Cooker “电饭锅炒饭”

Chinese Fried Rice is a very popular Chinese dish. Its famous for the fragrant wok taste as it is cooked in the wok at very high heat. Yes it definitely taste good when you use a wok to fry it. But how about trying to use a rice cooker to do the job. Firstly you don’t have to sweat furiously while cooking it and you don’t have to constantly fry it.

I finally tried using a rice cooker to do the job. I totally love it! Surprisingly it taste really good as well. The fried rice is fragrant and the rice comes out with a nice texture and you can feel every grain of rice.

  • 2 cups of rice (use the cup provided by your rice cooker) 米 2碗 (用电饭锅给的杯)
  • 5 cloves of garlic, finely chopped 大蒜 5瓣剁碎
  • 20 grams of dried shrimp 虾米 20克
  • 1 cup of spring onion, finely chopped 葱粒 1杯
  • Water or chicken stock (slightly above the 2 cups of rice level) 水还是鸡汤(一点超过两杯的水量)
  • 50 ml vegetable oil 菜油 50毫升
  • some oil to fry eggs 一点油炒蛋
  • 2 eggs 鸡蛋 2粒


  • 1 1/2 tablespoon light soya sauce 生抽 1 1/2汤匙
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste 盐 1/2茶匙
  • 1/4 teaspoon of sugar or to taste 糖 1/4茶匙
  • a dash of pepper 胡椒粉 少许


  1. Wash the rice and dried shrimp
  2. Select the quick cook function, press start
  3. Wait a few minutes for it to heat up
  4. Add in the dried shrimp, fry until golden brown. Add the garlic, fry until fragrant
  5. Add the rice and water. Note that water should be slightly above the 2 level mark because the oil took up some capacity
  6. Select rice function and press the start button. Cooking time to follow your rice cooker
  7. Once done, fluff up the rice and push it to one side to fry eggs. Select quick cook again and press start to heat up the rice cooker. Add some oil and then the eggs. Fry till about 70% cooked. Then fry together with the rice
  8. Add seasoning and then the spring onion. Toss the rice.
